Our Story

Happily Ever After - a Wedding to Benefit KC Pet Project

The happy couple first met at Pembark Hill in Kansas City. Being a small school, they were together in assemblies and at sporting and school sponsored events. As they got older, Grace and Charlie ran around in the same crowd of students and became good friends. In high school Grace was the photographer for the school yearbook and a member of student council. Charlie was in the school choir and on the competitive debate team. It was while taking yearbook photos of the Missouri State Debate Competition that Charlie and Grace began to look at each other a little differently. They dated some the summer before leaving for college.

Grace received a scholarship to Wagslley College where she received a degree in canine fashion design and was an active member of her sorority, Alpha Barc Chu. She designed costumes for all of the theatre department plays while in school. Grace is currently careering at Neiman Barcus in Dallas, Texas.

Charlie attended Sitandstay Hall University where he received an undergraduate degree in canine sports medicine. He continued his education at the University of California – Barkley, earning a post graduate degree in canine behavior health science. He was a member of Beta Chu fraternity. Charlie is currently careering at Fitbite in San Francisco, California.

After college, Grace entered the coveted Miss Ameripaw Pageant in Kansas City. She competed with other canines in swimsuit, evening gown and talent categories. Hundreds of Kansas Citians came to the event and participated in the vote for the winner. Grace won second place in the pageant but won the best prize of the night. Charlie had a booth at the event representing his company, Fitbite, and the two friends reunited.

Charlie proposed to Grace after a romantic picnic in Volker Park. They were strolling down 39th Street and saw a large heart on the side of a building. In front of the heart, Charlie asked the question – Grace said yes! It was the beginning of the rest of their lives.

She Said Yes

Roses are red, violets are blue

Will follow my nose, as long as it’s you

Grace and Charlie feel that their lives are complete and are looking forward to many wonderful years together. Having been raised in philanthropic families, they ask that all who share their love and happiness remember their less fortunate friends living at KC Pet Project. Many are lost from their families, scared and wondering what life has in store for them. A gift for these friends at KCPP is a gift to Grace and Charlie.

About KCPP

Grace and Charlie hope that all of their family and friends know about the lifesaving work done every day at KC Pet Project. Here are some things that they want you to know:

  • KC Pet Project is the largest No Kill shelter in Kansas City and the 3rd largest open-admission No Kill shelter in the United States!
  • No Kansas City, Missouri animal is turned away even if sick or injured.
  • More than 10,000 homeless pets will come to KC Pet Project in 2017, each in need of a soft bed, medical care, nourishing food, life-saving vaccinations and hope that they will find a new home.
  • The shelter saved 94.8% of all animals that arrived in 2016. This success was achieved with very limited resources on a small budget. (the smallest of any shelter in the area) It worked because every day the staff lives by their motto “Solutions – Not Excuses”.
  • If you are looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity, KC Pet Project is the place! You can help by walking dogs, providing a temporary residence for pets by fostering an animal in your home, assisting the SNAP (Safety Net Assistance Program) with their food outreach to persons receiving meal assistance or making regular monetary donations to help support the pets.
  • KC Pet Project has three adoption centers in the KC metro area: Main Shelter Location by the Truman Sports Complex, Zona Rosa Adoption Center, and Petco Adoption Center Overland Park, KS. Additionally, there are five Petco stores in the metro area where cats from KC Pet Project are available for adoption.

Grace and Charlie encourage you to support the shelter. They have asked the shelter staff to put together a wish list to be included in the Registry section of this website. It is their hope that you will celebrate their wedding and “happily after after” life together by purchasing from this page.

From both of them:

Thank you and hope to see you at the wedding!
